My name is William Mead and I am a Maths, Science and Coding Tutor currently based in West Hampstead. I have a degree in Physics from UCL and have hundreds hours of classroom and 1-on-1 tutoring experience. I work with several companies to help run coding and engineering after-school and holiday clubs across London, primarily for Primary School students. I am also an actor with a background in children’s theatre and am currently a performer for an improvised classical storytelling collective. When I’m not teaching or taking to the stage I try to find time to enjoy a game of squash, most recently travelling to Nottingham to compete in the BUCS National University Squash Championships.
When I’m tutoring I believe there are three key principles to success.
Passion for the Subject
Complete Understanding
Practice, Practice, Practice
I am constantly fascinated with Maths and Science and I make sure that I share that passion with my students. If they see that the subjects go beyond the classroom they’ll be motivated to ask questions, search for their answers, and learn.
I will never make a student learn something without explaining why, even if my explanation is brief. Students need to feel like they aren’t just memorising material for a test, but rather they are learning a skill and useful information that should stay with them beyond their exams.
Finally, practice. No student is above answering questions and attempting tricker and tricker problems. I make sure to work through problems with the student before providing plenty more for homework to make sure the concepts from the lesson are practiced, perfected, and then stored in long term memory.
I have lots of experience working with students of all ages from Primary to A-Level, helping them to achieve the grades they need for schools or for university.
I run several after-school clubs and holiday camps that teach young children how to code. Computer literacy is immensely important, whether or not the student becomes a programmer, coding lesson can go a long way.
I offer many other services including educational resource creation, workshops and more. Contact me to find out more.
